Our Deepest Sympathy
The staff of Watchman Fellowship wishes to express our deepest sympathy
for the families and friends of the victims of the terrorist attacks on
the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in Pennsylvania.
We greatly appreciate and rely upon the donation of our supporters.
If you were planning to make an online donation at this time, however,
we ask you to prayerfully consider giving a portion of that donation or
your entire donation to the Red Cross <http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html>
towards recovery and relief efforts. While our needs are great, they
are nothing in comparison with the thousands of lives that have been lost.
As you know, the focus of Watchman Fellowship's ministry is on counterfeit
Christianity, cults, and New Age spirituality. Our ministry does
not specifically address world religions, including Islam, or Muslim extremism.
It is important to note, however, that this sad event marks the latest
and most tragic example of religious terrorism the world has witnessed
with alarming frequency in recent years.
Since the Jonestown tragedy in 1978, we have witnessed a shocking number
of suicides, murders, and terrorism linked to religious fanaticism.
These include the gas assault in Tokyo's subways by the Aum Shinrikyo <http://www.watchman.org/profile/aumpro.htm>,
the salmonella bacteria attack in Oregon by the followers of Bhagwan Shree
Rajneesh <http://www.watchman.org/na/rajneesh.htm>,
and the murders of over 900 cult members last year in Uganda by the leaders
of the Movement for the Restoration of the Ten Commandments of God. <http://www.time.com/time/europe/magazine/2000/0410/uganda.html>
We have recently been horrified as we witnessed just how dangerous the
false religion of fanatical extremism can be. Several years ago, John Morehead
wrote a commentary on religious terrorism that has now been updated in
light of our recent tragedy. You may read it by clicking
here.
