Scientology: Glossary of Terms
Analytical Mind: That mind which computes - the "I" or consciousness.
Auditing: Also called Processing, the therapy whereby the student is freed of all painful and "bad" experiences.
Clear: The optimum state of being. A person who is clear possesses no engrams and is said to be able to manipulate matter at will.
Dianetics: The name of the introductory book to Scientology, written by L. Ron Hubbard.
E-Meter: Electrometer, electronic instrument used for measuring mental states of being. Similar to a lie detector.
Engram: A complete recording of every detail which happens during every moment of unconsciousness. Generally associated with times of pain, trouble, or related difficulties.
MEST: Acrostic for Matter, Energy, Space, and Time. The basic stuff of the physical universe.
Preclear: Any student of Scientology being audited toward the state of Clear.
Reactive Mind: That portion of the person's mind which stores all engrams.
Thetan: The individual - not the body, the mind, etc., but that part of a person which is aware of being aware.
